After reading this the thought comes to mind why it is so important that parents teach their children from birth until.....They were created for a purpose, to bring glory to God.. As you say we are God’s people, saved by God’s power, for God’s purpose. So many times I see parent's "personal opinions" taking precedence over the truth in God's word. Thus, when it comes time for them to explain why they believe what they do, it sounds lame and it just doesn't hold up.
This obviously applies to every individual who knows Christ as their personal Savior. The "truth" of God's word will ALWAYS be much more powerful than "personal opinion". That is why it is so important to be saturated in His word!
God's people, saved by God's power for God's purpose should be something imprinted on our hearts. I think I'll print it in big bold letters above my office desk! :)

Hey Chris, good stuff here. Its cool to read something coming from what you're learning with Immerse and how its affecting you.

Going through the questions "Who is God?" "What has he done?" "Who am I as a result?" and last "How do I live as a result?" have really help me, and others, get to what the gospel says specifically to the idol I am facing.

Using your example, "Why be sexually pure?" I'd answer in this way:

Who is God? - God is faithful

What has he done? - He has never broken any of his promises, even to the extent that he would send his only son to live and die and be raised again so that he could stay faithful to his promise of creating a holy people of his own.

Who am I as a result? - I have now been redeemed and am called a son of God because of his faithfulness towards me. When I doubt God's faithfulness, I can look to Christ (who still stays in bodily form at the right hand of God, always interceding on my behalf) to remember how faithful our God is.

How do I live as a result? - As I grow in a heart-level understanding of how faithful God has been (and still is), my desire to act faithfully in all areas of life (ie. living in intregrity) grows because I want to show people a picture of the faithfulness that has been shown to me. Being faithful to a potential future wife is just one piece of a larger life of faithfulness.

Everyone answers those questions a little differently depending on what they need to remember (or learn for the first time) about who God is, but the end result should always be the same, like you said: lead[ing] us to a point of worship for what God has done for us, realizing he is God, and that other thing that we found our identity was not, and now we have the opportunity to walk in who he has made us.

And last something we can tend to assume but shouldn't: This isn't a formula where once we learn the truth of God we automatically live it. We need the Holy Spirit to change our hearts as the truth of the gospel renews our minds, and only the Holy Spirit is able to work at us at that level. We can't change that part of us, but we have hope that the one who gave us a new heart will also see that transformation completed.
